Dean Henderson, the goalkeeper for Palace who was acquired from United in August, left the game after 19 minutes due to what seemed to be a right leg discomfort following a seemingly simple long kick.
Two minutes after Diogo Dalot cut back from the byline for Alejandro Garnacho to sweep in right-footed, he was replaced by Sam Johnstone, another offshoot of the Manchester United academy, who was picking the ball out of the net.
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who was having a great game, made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when he leaped in the box and headed Mason Mount’s swinging cross into the far corner.
The third goal came in the 55th minute by Anthony Martial, who took advantage of some poor defending to sprint onto a Casemiro pass at the back post and blast past Johnstone.
The match was the only game that had two clubs from the top tier against one another that evening, and they will face off again at Old Trafford on Saturday.
